Historian, Writer, Researcher
I am a historian of post-War capitalism.
I work on the decolonisation of British India, situating the post-colonial order established in 1947 within global economic histories.
My writing outside academia has featured in the Economic and Political Weekly, Open Magazine, Businessworld, the Wall Street Journal, the Detroit Free Press, and the Boston Globe among others.
My academic publications are based on my doctoral research on the economic history of the Partition of British India (International History and Politics, Graduate Institute, 2023).
My paper in Business History Review uses archives from late colonial India, the paper shows that economic partition – as opposed to a widely anticipated but undefined political partition – was not widely foreseen by economists and the business elite in Bombay, centre of Indian commerce and industry.
